Ladysmith Gallery: Self Taught Artist Thomas hutchings
Artist captures the Pacific Northwest Wilderness through paint and clay
August 21st – 30th, 2026
Spiritbrush Artist, Escaped comes to the Ladysmith Gallery
An exhibition of paintings, prints, and ceramic works
A self-taught artist whose work captures the raw beauty and tranquil essence of the Pacific Northwest wilderness and East Coast of Canada through bold brushstrokes and harmonious color palettes.
Returning once again to the landscapes of Vancouver Island, Spiritbrush continues an ongoing dialogue with the natural world through expressive paintings and prints inspired by forests, shorelines, weather, and the quiet rhythms of the land through gestural brushwork, layered textures, and earthy palettes.
Joining the exhibition is a new collection of ceramic works that expands the artist’s exploration. Combining raw clay with glazed and underglazed surfaces, these pieces move between the functional and the sculptural.
Together, the paintings, prints, and ceramics reveal an artist who continues to evolve after decades of creative practice. Each work reflects an instinctive process of observation, experimentation, and discovery—one guided less by rules than by curiosity and lived experience.
