Step beyond functional pottery and discover the expressive world of sculptural ceramics in this inspiring 4-week hand-building course.
This course is all about using clay as an artistic medium to create decorative pieces full of character, movement, and imagination.
Over the first three sessions, you’ll create three unique projects: a sculptural flower, an octopus platter, and a playful funky chicken bursting with personality. Along the way, you’ll learn essential hand-building techniques including slab construction, shaping, joining, sculpting, and adding texture. You’ll also be encouraged to add your own creative touches, making each piece a true reflection of your personal style.
The fourth session is dedicated to glazing. After glazing, your creations will be professionally kiln-fired and ready to brighten your home, garden, or favourite outdoor space.
Whether you’re new to clay or looking to expand your ceramic skills beyond functional pottery, this course is a wonderful opportunity to explore clay in a relaxed, supportive, and creative environment.

I've been working with clay for over 25 years, and I still get excited every time I open a kiln. There’s magic in turning a lump of earth into a piece that becomes part of someone’s daily life. My work is rooted in the natural textures and tones of the West Coast, often blending organic forms with clean, modern lines. I primarily work on the wheel, but I also love the freedom and playfulness of hand-building—especially when teaching. Over the years, I’ve taught hundreds of students through private lessons, group workshops, and community programs, and I find real fulfilment in helping others connect with clay for the first time (and fall in love with it). Pottery, for me, is both grounding and expressive—a balance of technique and spontaneity. Every piece tells a story, and no two are ever quite the same. That’s what keeps me coming back to the studio.
