The Arts Council of Ladysmith (LAC) and Yellow Point Drama Group (YPDG) presented a tremendous opportunity for all B.C. resident playwrights in sponsoring a new play writing competition that offers not only a generous prize but an opportunity to see their work produced on stage. The winning script will receive a prize of $2000.00 and have their work staged by Yellow Point Drama Group as part of their 2020 fall season. Thank you to all those who submitted a script to be judged.
Eligibility: this competition is open to all British Columbia residents. The play must never have been previously produced or published before.Submissions must be:* Full length play between approximately 90 and 120 minutes duration and must never have been previously produced on stage. Printed on single sheets, one side only, single spaced.* There are no restrictions to content but writers should be aware that part of the selection process will be based on the work being performed for a community theater audience.* Plays will be read by a panel of two established judges with LAC and YPDG reserving the right of final decision in choosing the winning play.*Winner will be notified in the fall of 2019. Royalty rights for the winning play will be granted to YPDG for their 2020 production with fees included as part of the prize money. After that the playwright retains full future rights to their work.* Entrance fee is $40.00 payable by cheque made out to Ladysmith Arts Council or paid onlineMailing scripts, applicants must include:· Two copies of their script without the playwright’s name· Completed application form containing playwright’s identification· A cheque for $40.00 to Ladysmith Arts Council (if not using the online option)Scripts to be mailed to: Arts Council of Ladysmith, Box 2370 Ladysmith, B.C.
