Artists on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are preparing to submit artwork in 2D, 3D and photography for the 9th biennial Ladysmith Fine Arts Show. This year will be our first time presenting this event online and virtually due to the COVID 19 pandemic. While some things will be a little different, we are very excited to be working with a wonderful group of jurors who will be looking at the artwork submitted and deciding which works will be accepted into the show. Those works be showcased on our website from February 6 until March 31,2021. Artists chosen will also be invited to a awards ceremony that will take place on February 5 at 2pm via Zoom, while the general public can watch the livestream from our Facebook Page and on our website.
We would like to introduce our jurors: David Goatley, Jacqueline Nolte and Rachel Penney. Each juror was interviewed to offer some insight into what makes a fine art show and what artists should look at when submitting artwork. We hope artists and art lovers alike will find this useful and interesting.
David Goatley is considered one of North America’s foremost portrait painters and will be judging 2D artwork.
Jacqueline Nolte holds a PhD in historical studies, an MA and a BA (Hons) in the history of art, and a BA in fine art from the University of Cape Town, as well as a diploma in higher education from the University of South Africa. Jacqueline will be looking at 3D artwork.
Rachel Penney is from Cowichan Bay, BC and is a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art, CAPA. She is also a member of the Cowichan Valley Camera Club. Rachel will be viewing artwork submitted into the photography category.
