In our August exhibit, Local Treasures, Danaca Ackerson presents a lyrical oil painting titled "Erythronium by the River".
She states, "The focus of my artwork is to share my experiences through a poetics of visuals by creating pieces which speak to the topic of caring for the places we live and for one another."
"Erythronium by the river is inspired by noticing what is before me and finding joy in
earthly delights. We were biking by the Englishman River in early spring when I noticed
the delicate erythronium or fawn lilies bursting through fallen leaves and sticks, the
debris left over from winter, creating an exquisite carpet of flowers. This is something we would only see in the wild."
Danaca's piece "Erythronium by the River" can be viewed in the Downtown Ladysmith Art Gallery until August 21st.
