Discover how this accessible medium can support everything from playful experimentation to intricate sculptural work. \n\n\n\nPapier-Mâché Foundations: A Three-Part Workshop SeriesThis three-part workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to papier-mâché techniques\, guiding participants from basic construction methods to finished decorative surfaces. Using affordable\, easily accessible materials\, students will explore a creative process that can be adapted from simple projects to highly intricate sculptural work.Part 1: Materials & StructureParticipants will be introduced to essential tools and materials\, including paper types\, adhesives\, and paste recipes. The session focuses on armature construction\, teaching students how to build strong internal supports using wire\, cardboard and found materials to create stable forms.Part 2: Application Techniques & Form DevelopmentThis session explores paper layering\, paper pulp techniques\, and mold usage. Students will learn how to achieve smooth surfaces\, add dimensional details\, and refine sculptural shapes while understanding drying times and structural integrity.Part 3: Surface & Finishing TechniquesThe final session focuses on painting and finishing methods. Participants will explore sealing\, priming\, painting\, and decorative techniques to bring their pieces to life. Guidance will also be provided on how to safely dry and preserve completed works.Throughout the series\, participants will receive detailed visual and written handouts summarizing key concepts and techniques\, enabling them to continue working independently. DESCRIPTION:Join experienced instructor and traditional craftsperson Andrew Kent for a hands-on\, single-day workshop where you’ll build your own willow club chair. In one day you can make and take home your own bent willow club chair. Using alder for the frame pieces\, willow for the bent shoots and seat\, this is a great first rustic building project. All tools and materials provided\, you make and take home the chair.  \n\n\n\nThis is a full day 9:00-4:00 working together as a group to build the chairs. \n\n\n\nPerfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike\, this immersive class offers a practical introduction to rustic woodworking techniques. You’ll work with alder for the frame and willow for the benders\, learning how to shape\, bend\, and assemble your very own chair using traditional methods. \n\n\n\nAll tools and materials are provided\, and you’ll leave with a finished chair—and the skills to build more! \n\n\n\nNote that you will be on your feet for much of the day. This isn’t your average performing arts camp—it is a high-octane\, multi-show Musical Theatre Intensive. \n\n\n\nThe Creative Team Our revolution is led by the powerhouse duo of esteemed Director Stephanie Roth and accomplished Choreographer Braiden Stevenson. Together\, they provide a dynamic and inclusive environment where kids can sing\, dance\, and create like never before. \n\n\n\nThe Big Reveal The week culminates in an epic final presentation for families and friends. DESCRIPTION:The Arts Council of Ladysmith and District regrets to announce that its “Bid for the Build” fundraiser has been postponed again to Wednesday\, July 29. The event supports the new gallery at the Arts and Heritage Hub\, known as “The Machine Shop\,” and the postponement is due to unforeseen delays in occupancy permit approval. \n\n\n\nWe hope the new date does not create conflict and that you will still be able to join us for this exciting art auction and fundraiser\, featuring selected works by well-known artists in both silent and live auctions.  \n\n\n\nJoin us for a lively art auction to raise funds for the Arts Council of Ladysmith’s portion of the new Arts & Heritage Hub. Bid on 50+ juried artworks\, take part in a live auction of 5 additional works of art by well-known Canadian artists while enjoying live music and refreshments provided by the Ladysmith Kinsmen. Prominent speakers will talk throughout the event\, Emceed by Andrea Rosato-Taylor. Tickets are $45. \n\n\n\nWhat you are supporting:Envisioned as a vibrant and evolving centre for creativity\, the Arts & Heritage Hub stands at the intersection of innovation and community.
