Classes will cover an array of basic painting principals and will incorporate some mixed media applications. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Papier-Mâché Foundations: a hands-on workshop where you’ll explore how simple materials like paper and paste can be transformed into expressive\, dimensional artwork. Discover how this accessible medium can support everything from playful experimentation to intricate sculptural work. \n\n\n\nPapier-Mâché Foundations: A Three-Part Workshop SeriesThis three-part workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to papier-mâché techniques\, guiding participants from basic construction methods to finished decorative surfaces. Using affordable\, easily accessible materials\, students will explore a creative process that can be adapted from simple projects to highly intricate sculptural work.Part 1: Materials & StructureParticipants will be introduced to essential tools and materials\, including paper types\, adhesives\, and paste recipes. The session focuses on armature construction\, teaching students how to build strong internal supports using wire\, cardboard and found materials to create stable forms.Part 2: Application Techniques & Form DevelopmentThis session explores paper layering\, paper pulp techniques\, and mold usage. Students will learn how to achieve smooth surfaces\, add dimensional details\, and refine sculptural shapes while understanding drying times and structural integrity.Part 3: Surface & Finishing TechniquesThe final session focuses on painting and finishing methods. Participants will explore sealing\, priming\, painting\, and decorative techniques to bring their pieces to life. Guidance will also be provided on how to safely dry and preserve completed works.Throughout the series\, participants will receive detailed visual and written handouts summarizing key concepts and techniques\, enabling them to continue working independently. SUMMARY:Willow Club Chair Workshop with Andrew Kent
DESCRIPTION:Join experienced instructor and traditional craftsperson Andrew Kent for a hands-on\, single-day workshop where you’ll build your own willow club chair. In one day you can make and take home your own bent willow club chair. Using alder for the frame pieces\, willow for the bent shoots and seat\, this is a great first rustic building project. All tools and materials provided\, you make and take home the chair.  \n\n\n\nThis is a full day 9:00-4:00 working together as a group to build the chairs. \n\n\n\nPerfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike\, this immersive class offers a practical introduction to rustic woodworking techniques. You’ll work with alder for the frame and willow for the benders\, learning how to shape\, bend\, and assemble your very own chair using traditional methods. \n\n\n\nAll tools and materials are provided\, and you’ll leave with a finished chair—and the skills to build more! \n\n\n\nNote that you will be on your feet for much of the day. Each participant is welcome to bring along one person to assist them. \n\n\n\nPlease Bring: \n\n\n\n\nA full water bottle and a bagged lunch\n\n\n\nClothes that you can move easily in\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, June 11th\, 2026 in classroom @ 610 Oyster Bay Drive
