About the Event

Come and learn the basics of wood carving! We will work with green wood (wood that is fresh, soft and easy to carve). Wood and a selection of tools will be provided so you'll have the opportunity to experiment. In our day together, you’ll have time to complete a project, so you’ll go home with a spoon that is carved and ready to dry. Here is what we will cover:

  • Introduction and theory to better understand wood fibers and properties
  • Description of some tools and techniques, and a demonstration of how to make a spoon with hand tools
  • Hands-on carving all together
  • Lunchbreak (please bring a bagged lunch and full water bottle)
  • Sharpening basics
  • Continue carving together, with a sharpening station available

And, this workshop is just the beginning. With this new skillset, you will feel ready to shop for your own simple tools, select wood, and go on to carve more spoons, chopsticks, a little bowl—you decide!
