About the Event
In this kids' clay workshop, participants will learn about the process of handbuilding a functional piece of pottery. They will learn how choices they make with shapes, texture, and detail can give a unique personality to their creations, and the class will foster confidence and creative self-expression under the guidance of experienced educator and celebrated artist, Karen Dance. Students will create a fun and infinitely loveable character cup to be proud of. After a lunchbreak, they will add additional details and colour to their pieces. Karen will fire and glaze each masterpiece, and we will notify you when it's ready for pickup.
Please Bring:
- A full water bottle and a bagged lunch
- Clothes that can get a bit messy
Karen Dance works out of her Ladysmith pottery studio, Tilted Kilnworks. Her one-of-a-kind vessels are hand-formed using a variety of methods, such as pinch, coil and slab work. She also creates her own tools and texturizing mats in order to customize her characters. Thoughtful applications of different glazes and stains are used to render depth and create textures that invite touch and endeavour to captivate the viewer. Each piece is given, through its creation, a personality that aims to elicit an emotional response and evoke humour.
