About the Event

Choose your own bookbinding adventure: register for both classes, or if you prefer, sign up for one of the individual classes as described below. Both are suitable for all levels and all materials are included.

Four Book Medley, October 17

Learn three basic book structures: pamphlet stitch, stab binding and two types of accordion assembly. We will create four unique projects using beautiful decorative papers, book board, sturdy card stock and heavier text papers. Come away with two notebooks, an art journal and an accordion book with black card stock. This session serves as a great introduction to bookbinding but is not a requisite for taking the coptic journal class.

Coptic Stitched Journal, October 24

The coptic stitched journal will be constructed from book boards covered with beautiful decorative paper and a book block with 128 pages of heavier text weight paper. We will sew the books together using waxed linen thread and the historical coptic and kettle stitching styles, which are both beautiful and very strong.

Please bring the following tools for each session:  metal ruler, pencil, eraser and scissors.

Optional tools to bring: cutting mat, Exacto knife, awl and bone folder. Instructor will provide these items if you don't have them.

Meet Your Instructor, Carolynn Dallaire

Over the last thirty years, it has been my pleasure to learn more and more about two of my favourite passions: bookbinding and calligraphy.  It continues to be a delight to take boards, text paper, decorative paper and make a journal to use for a notebook, a special occasion, a trip or daily use. Exploring the many alphabets of calligraphy never ceases to amaze me. As the years have rolled by, I’ve enjoyed learning more about these two artistic fields and have had the opportunity to teach many topics within these two artistic areas.
